OK, this is a real pain but I did find a work around. I went through the apple site the previously mentioned links don’t seem to work at this date.
I use Safari. I am using Sierra on a imac, FYI. Once you fill out your info and hit enter. Look at the status bar in the upper right and click on it. You will see the download progress bar.
Everything is fine until about mb total file is about 3GB then you get the prompt “timed out”. Don’t close at this point. Simply Alt-Click on the status area and you will get a pull down window, it will have an option to “resume”. Once you choose resume, you get about another mb until it times out again. If you do the math you have to do this many many times. Totally absurd but if you are as desperate as I was, you’ll try it. I have not run a FCP session yet, but it did “uncompress”, install and open.
