I currently had same issue with WIN8. Seems fgee was GuestAdditions 4. Now I have GuestAdditions 5. In my case, it was the AVG Business edition anti-virus! If you are facing unusual slow performance I will suggest you to disable anti-virus completely and check if it improves.
